The Shack, a local restaurant that has more than 100 types of beers, has been established as one of the rare craft beer locations in Sacramento.

Server Christopher Fairman said The Shack can turn any anti-beer person into a beer lover.

“If you don’t like beer, we can find a beer that you would like,” Fairman said.

The Shack serves a variety of local beers, such as Track 7, a Sacramento brewery that features a popular Panic Indian Pale Ale as well as Berryessa Brewing Company that is based out of Winters, CA.

Since The Shack doesn’t serve mainstream beer brands, servers can help customers find the beer they like, such as the Blanche de Bruxells on draft would be recommended for Blue Moon lovers.

For the Guinness drinker, The Shack’s Campfire Stout is a dark beer brewed with graham crackers to simulate the taste of a s’more.

Grimbergen is popular dubbel abbey ale tastes similar to Newcastle Brown Ale. Fairman said that many who love Newcastle turn to drinking Grimbergen after trying it for the first time.

Estrella Damm is a lager that is preferred by beer drinkers who enjoy a typical Coors light or Bud Light.

Senior Economics major Nick Onorati, 25, who enjoys drinking his favorite beer, Rochefort 10, said The Shack is very quaint and authentic.

“I love the fact that they are a friendly supportive channel to local craft beers,” Onorati said. “The numerous varieties of beers make the average person looking to get that midday buzz a chance to fulfill their desires with one of their high alcohol content beers.”

Onorati also enjoys the company and the friendliness of the staff who work at The Shack.

“Conversations are never dull in that place with their wait staff,” Onorati said. “It is encouraged to try the variety of beers on tap not only to be familiar with the taste upon describing it to a customer, but also to be relaxed and friendly and fast paced environment.”

Fairman, who is also a musician and has received two guitars from regular customers he serves at The Shack, said the eatery creates a great camaraderie with him and the locals.

“This place is a community, there is no divided with the server and the customers,” Fairman said. “When people come in, they want to get to know you.”

Not only is The Shack inviting with their selection of local brews, but the restaurant serves comfort dishes such as ribs, hot links and cornbread.

The Cajun Bacon Blue Burger is very popular favorite amongst customers as well as their grilled pastrami sandwich, the Old #8.

Taylor Terfehr enjoys visiting The Shack on the weekends during brunch due to their reasonably low prices and tasty food.

“I like that restaurant has a small town vibe in the middle of East Sac. The brunch there is the best around and priced perfectly for students, Terfehr said. “You can grab whatever brew you’re craving, the selection is so huge, it’s ridiculous.”

All of the food is made in-house; they grind their own meat for burgers, roast their own turkeys every other day and smoke their own pastrami.

“There is nothing here that we don’t make, it’s like getting homemade food,” Fairman said.
