Sac State women’s golf places seventh in Irvine

Sacramento State women’s golf finished the UC Irvine Invitational with sophomore Sagee Palavivatana and juniors Tiffany Nichols and Lisa Persson all shooting a 79 final round total. 

The Hornets’ score was good for seventh place out of the 12 teams that competed yesterday. 

As a team, Sac State finished the UC Irvine Invitational with a 77-over-par 308-313-320, 941 and featured two golfers who completed the final round in the top-25. 

For the second straight week, Palavivatana was the shining star for the Hornets as she finished tied for 20th place. She was 15-over-par after the final round of play stopped yesterday and shot a 77-75-79, 231. In the final round, she shot 7-over-par. 

Freshman Natalie Bodnar led the first day of the tournament only to lose the lead in the second round when she finished tied for 10th place. During the third round, Bodnar fell down fifteen spots and finished tied for 25th place. 

Tiffany Nichols finished another solid tournament tied for 34th place and collected four birdies, 19 bogeys and three double-bogeys. The junior collected all of her four birdies in the final round on the seventh hole, 11th hole, 12th hole and 15th hole. 

For the second straight week, junior Lisa Persson finished higher than the top 25, tied for 49th place. Persson got off to a rough start in the first two rounds, shooting 9-over-par 81, but finished the invitational with 25-over-par 81-81-79, 241. 

Overall, she collected four birdies, 13 bogeys and seven double bogeys. Persson’s only birdie for the first round came on the 10th hole after shooting a 44 on the front nine. 

Last but not least, sophomore Lexie Hall rounded out the Hornet squad in 59th place. Hall could not really find the hole this weekend, finishing the invitational with a score of 33-over-par 79-85-85, 249. 

Hall was able to grab four birdies, 17 bogeys, six double bogeys and two triple bogeys. 

The Hornet golf team has a long break from now until April 8 – 10 when Sac State will compete in the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic.
