Sac State sorority raises money at pasta feed for missing teen
April 2, 2012
A Sacramento State sorority held a pasta feed on Wednesday to raise money towards the finding of a missing Bay Area teen Sierra LaMar.
With approximately 300 people in attendance the fundraiser raised approximately $2,700 for the Sierra LaMar Fund.
LaMar, 15, disappeared from Morgan Hill on March 16. She was last seen around 6 a.m. when she left home to catch a bus to her school.
LaMar’s sister Danielle is a Sac State student and member of host sorority Phi Sigma Sigma.
Danielle’s big sorority sister and senior biology major Brianna Waterstradt said she organized the event after Danielle’s boyfriend mentioned the Sierra LaMar Fund.
“I told him that we all just wanted to do something to help, but we didn’t know what to do,” Waterstradt said. “He said the family is coming up with a fund and it spiraled from there.”
Waterstradt said the number of attendees was more than expected with a lot of people going in and out throughout the night.
“The turnout was wonderful,” Waterstradt said. “We had 150 seats and when I ate I had to sit on the floor.”
Waterstradt said Danielle was able to attend the event.
“Danielle really appreciated it,” Waterstradt said. “She got to go and see everybody there.”
