Safetyville USA held its 19th annual Halloween Haunt where kids dressed as action heroes, princesses, animals and knights on Saturday.

Sac State Serves, a community service program for Sacramento State faculty, staff, students and alumni, had 67 volunteers at the event.

Angelina Samayoa, junior anthropology major and Sac State Serves volunteer, said she enjoyed seeing kids in their costumers and helping them play the games. She hopes to come out again next year, Samayoa said.

Parents purchased tickets, which allowed the kids to play games like the hula hoop ring toss. In that game, kids jumped through a hula hoop over a construction cone. Other games were miniature bowling and miniature golf.

Kids had their faces painted to match the character of their Halloween costume.

Face painting allows the kids to match their Halloween costume, Melinda Galloway, employee of Maya’s Playhouse, said.

After face painting, the Clowns McDuff, Dimples and Hare Bear from Shriners Hospital made balloon animals for the kids.

Walking around Safetyville USA kids were greeted by various mascots: Safety Bill the dog, the Sacramento Regional Conservation Corps recycled bottles mascot, the River Cats’ mascot, Dinger, and the State Farm Insurance Good Neigh Bear.

Hay seats provided the perfect relaxation for attendees to enjoy the O Street Jumps band or to watch magician Trevor Wyatt make ABC blocks disappear while audience members ate freshly made cotton candy.
