Women’s tennis loses to Stanford, 7-0

The Sacramento State women’s tennis team fell to the No. 14 Stanford Cardinal 7-0 today at Taube Family Tennis Stadium in Stanford, Calif.

The Cardinal opened by sweeping the doubles point. The No. 2 doubles team in the nation dominated the Hornets’ team of sophomore Clarisse Baca and senior Katrina Zheltova by a score of 8-0.

Hornet Sophomore Tatsiana Kapshai and freshman Rebeca Delgado lost as well to Mallory Burdette and Stacey Tan, 8-3.

Stanford dominated singles play winning every match against the Hornets. Delgado had an early lead of 3-0 in the second set, but lost to the Cardinal by a final of 6-3, 6-4, resulting in her first collegiate loss.

Sac State falls to 3-2 overall on the season.

The Hornets return home Friday to face their rivals, the UC Davis Aggies in a match with Causeway Cup implications. The match will be at 1:30p.m., but if weather is a factor, the match will be moved indoors and will begin at 2:15 p.m.
