Women’s tennis handles Hawaii 4-2

The Sacramento State women’s tennis team beat the Hawaii Rainbow Wahine 4-2, Tuesday, indoors at the Spare Time Tennis Center.

With the win the Hornets are now 6-3. The Rainbow Wahine became 1-6 on the season with the loss. Against teams ranked within the top 20, Sac State is 0-3 and when facing all other opponents ranked higher No.20, the Hornets are undefeated, 6-0.

Sac State took the first three matches of singles play. Sophomore Clarisse Baca, started the winning trend, defeating Hawaii’s Natasha Zorec 6-1, 7-6. Hornet Aileen Tsan defeated Natasha Zorec 6-2 , 6-3 to increase the lead to 2-0 at that point. Rebeca Delgado went on and made it three straight wins, defeating Hawaii’s Katarina Poljakova in two sets 6-1, 7-6.

Aglae Van Den Bergh of Hawaii, kept the Rainbow Wahine in the match defeating Hornet freshman Zalina Nazarova, 6-1, 6-4. Senior Katrina Zheltova, however, sealed the win for Sac State with the victory over Barbara Pinterova in three sets, 1-6, 6-4, and 6-3. Rainbow Wahine Sophie Kobuch closed out the day with a win over Tatsiana Kapshai 7-6, 3-6, 7-5.

Sac State heads out on a road trip to Southern California over the weekend. The Hornets face No. 56 UC Irvine on Friday, No.65 San Diego State on Saturday and No. 60 San Diego on Sunday.
