The Sacramento State gymnastics team returned home Friday night with a strong showing, defeating Western Athletic Conference rival San Jose State 194.225-193.850.

In the Hornets’ first home match in two weeks, they were looking to build upon their scoring from their last meet in Boise, Idaho, where they saw Jasmine Lipka score a 9.900 on the floor. That night, the Hornets took second to Boise State’s first place, while scoring a then season-high, 193.850.

Sac State scored a new season-high against San Jose State with 194.225. The Hornets had consistent scoring on their side and dominated the beam event, placing three Hornets at top the winners podium.

Traci Takeda and Cayla Boyce tied for first place on beam with a score of 9.850. Eryn Stubblefield finished in third place with a score of 9.825. Nicole Meiller led all Hornets on vault with a score of 9.750, good for third in the event. On floor, Lipka once again had a strong showing for the Hornets, leading the team with a score of 9.800, a tenth of a point off of her personal-best. Co-captain Amanda Blauvelt tied her season high of 9.800 on the uneven bars and leading all Hornets with a second-place finish.

Both San Jose State and Sac State had just one gymnast place in the all-around scoring. Spartan Thomasina Wallace beat out Stubblefield for the night’s top honor. Wallace in four events scored 39.075 to Stubblefield’s 38.025.

Sac State head coach Kim Hughes attributed the night’s performance to consistency. “Starting with vault you could see the enthusiasm, the effort, and the confidence,” Hughes said. “Everything just flowed from event to event.”

The Hornets return to action again on Fed. 26 in a rematch at San Jose State at 7p.m.
