Gymnastics places third at Stanford

The Sacramento State Gymnastics team went into Stanford, California tonight, to take on the eighth-ranked Stanford Cardinal of the Pacific-10 Conference, along with 24th-ranked University of Washington and San Jose State University.

Sac State came out with a win over San Jose State, but lost to Washington and Stanford.

The Hornets scored a season-high 193.225 points, bettering their last performance at Colberg court, one week ago, by one point. However, Sac State finished third behind Washington’s 194.075, good for second and Stanford’s 196.650, best for first place. Coming in fourth at the four team meet was San Jose State, with a score of 192.800.

The Hornets hit season-highs in vault and bars. With a new lineup for vault, the Hornets scored 48.200, easily eclipsing their season-average of 47.373 for the apparatus over the first three meets. The Hornets were led by Traci Takeda, who led all Hornets with a score of 9.725.

As for the bars, the Hornets were led by junior Amanda Blauvelt, who tied a career high and led all Hornets with a score of 9.800. As a whole, Sac State scored 48.550. Jasmine Lipka led the Hornets on floor event with a career high of 9.750, while as a unit scoring 48.175. On beam, the Hornets were once again led by junior Traci Takeda, who scored a season high of 9.775, and as a unit scored 48.300.

The Hornets next meet will come on Feb. 12 in Idaho versus the Broncos of Boise State.
