Sacramento State’s women’s volleyball team suffered a 3-2 loss to Weber State after leading 2-0 going into the third set Friday.

The Hornets had a chance to sweep the Wildcats in the third set. But sophomore libero Breanne Menees hit a service error with Sac State down 23-24 that cost the Hornets the set.

Senior outside hitter Desiree Hoyum posted a league-best 17th double-double with 20 kills and 15 digs for the team high for the game.

Junior middle hitter Maddison Thivierge said the team needed to play with more control and efficiency throughout the game, especially the second half.

“We had too many unforced errors,” Thivierge said. “We just needed to play more competitively, it was all in our control.”

Head coach Ruben Volta thought that the Hornets played well throughout the game but gave credit Weber State for its performance.

“I thought we played really well, even in game three when we had that big letdown, we still came back,” Volta said. “During the second half of the game I thought Weber State played really well, they attacked the ball really well and we had trouble playing defense. I have to give credit to Weber since they attacked very aggressively.”

The loss leaves Sac State with a 15-12 overall record and 5-6 conference in conference play. The loss cost the Hornets the chance to move up to fourth place in the Big Sky Conference.
