Men’s soccer defeats Seattle 1-0 and improve to 3-0 in conference play

Sacramento State’s men’s soccer team won its third conference game against Seattle University Friday afternoon.

The Hornets defeated Seattle 1-0 with junior midfielder Ernesto Carranza’s fourth goal of the season.

Junior defender Diego Marroquin got the Hornets first shot 2:03 minutes into the match. Carranza got the Hornets first shot on goal before scoring on a side kick from freshman forward Max Alverez at 24:23.

The Hornets continued attacking in the first period, as freshman forward David Norton got a shot that was saved by Seattle goalkeeper Ivan Dizdar. Sophomore defender Bryan Baker also got 2 shots, which were blocked by Seattle defenders. The men’s soccer team got seven shots in the first period and out shot Seattle by two.

The Hornets kept Seattle scoreless through the second half, despite three early shots by Seattle.

Sophomore goalkeeper Bryan Oliver ended the game with two saves in 90 minutes. The Hornets finished with five blocks on Seattle’s 11 shots. Alverez and senior midfielder Scott Crandall tied for the most shots by Hornets players with four each.

With Friday’s win, the Hornets are 3-0 in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation with four conference games remaining.

Next for Sac State’s men’s soccer team is a game against CSU Bakersfield Sunday Oct. 25
