Rocking out with Goldfinger

Gregory Westcott

Are you ready for some punk? You better be or you’ll get swallowed up in the mosh pit when Goldfinger comes to Sacramento State at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday at the University Union Ballroom, along with The Kegels and Bright Light Fever.

The Los Angles based Goldfinger has been serving up their punk/ska style since 1994 and haven’t let up with the recent release of the band’s new album, “Hello Destiny.” Past hits include: “Here In Your Bedroom”, “Mable”, “Superman” and a remake of “99 Red Balloons”. Goldfinger is comprised of lead singer/guitarist John Feldmann, bass player Kelly LeMieux, drummer Darrin Pfeiffer and guitarist Charlie Paulson.

The State Hornet had a chance to talk to Goldfinger drummer Darrin Pfeiffer about the up coming show: How did they come up with the name Goldfinger…007 fans?It was one of those situations where we agreed on the name on temporary basis and it just kinda stuck.

What inspires your music?Fast cars, fast chicks and Taco Bell.

What are your favorite song/s to perform and why?I personally like the song Chris Cayton live. It incorporates all our styles into one nice little 3 minute package.

Any good Sacramento related stories?Last time I was there I had a burrito for lunch and before the show I pooped 4 times. Was SOOO weird!!

Goldfinger has been around for a while now. Is “time” a good or bad thing for a band?We have been a band for 15 years now which is a source of pride I guess. Means we’re “legends” I guess. Either that or just plain old.

What can Sac State expect for the show?Body parts lying on the ground after we play!!

Opening up for Goldfinger are San Francisco based, The Kegels and Sacramento’s own Bright Light Fever.

The Kegels is a punk rock band whose website describes them as: “Four punks from two Bay Area bands united to make some music, drink a lot of beer and play some shows. The end.” The band is made up of guitarist Jake B., guitarist Forty Lopez, drummer Brian C., bassist Jesse C.

Bright Light Fever is a local band made up of: guitar/vocals/keyboards Arvin, bassist Don, drummer Bob and guitar/vocals Mark. Their website describes them as a “powerhouse rock quartet” who has remained true to themselves as they have grown together as a band.

Tickets are $20 for students and $25 for general.
