Softball will face Fresno State in NCAA Regional
The Sacramento State softball team (32-19) will travel to Fresno for the NCAA D-I Tournament to play No. 16 Fresno State (51-11) at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.UC Berkeley (40-24) and San Diego State (43-15) will be competing against each other at the Fresno Regional.
The winners of Friday’s games will compete in game three on Saturday at noon, and the losers will play game four at 2:30 p.m. The loser of game three and winner of game four will compete during the Saturday nightcap.The championship game will consist of the winners from games three and five on Sunday at 1 p.m., with the winner advancing to the Super Regional.
Seven named to all-conference selections
Coach Kathy Strahan and junior Jamie Schloredt top the Pacific Coast Softball Conference selections. Strahan was named PCSC Coach of the Year and Schloredt was named PCSC Player of the Year.
Senior Amy Timpkins and juniors Kayla Meeks and Izmena Cabrera joined Schloredt on the league’s first team. Senior Hilary Johnson, junior Whitney Loomis and sophomore Brittani Clifford were named to the second team.
Meeks was named to the selections twice; her first team honor is as a designated player and as a pitcher for the second team.
Hornets earn six first-place finishes
The track and field team competed in the Aggie Twilight Meet on Saturday at UC Davis. Three men hit regional qualifying standards: Freshman Ronald Brookins placed second in the 110-hurdles in 14.29 seconds; sophomore Daniel Carlson beat the standard of 10:50.25 in the steeplechase as he placed fourth with a time of 9:50.50; and senior Daniel Imlach came close to hitting his school record in the pole vault as he cleared 17-00.75, just 0.25 off his record.Imlach, Lori Vaught (long jump), Natalia Wright (triple jump), Derek Hammond (long jump), Katie Lodato (hammer) and the women’s 4×100 relay team recorded first placed finishes in the meet.
Sac State races two boats in regatta
The women’s varsity heavyweight eight earned a sliver medal at the Dad Vail Regatta on Saturday on the Schuykill River. The rowing program only sent its varsity eight team, but the entire team will compete in the Pacific Coast Rowing Championships and the Pac-10 Championships on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
