From First to Last just released their third and self-titled album on May 6th. The album offers eleven tracks filled with hard-core metal that will no doubt get you to start head banging.

The new album spawned after a series of trials. Former lead singer Sonny Moore left the band after some health issues. The band got dropped from Capital Records and almost broke up. However, guitarist Matt Good stepped up to the plate and took over as the lead vocalist, their longtime friend Matt Manning signed on as a bassist and Suretone Records picked the band up. After the pieces were put back together, the band was able to produce this new album, which really shows their raw talents.

Good’s voice in this album is very powerful and he delivers each song with confidence and clarity. His voice especially explodes in “Two as One” and “The Other Side” which features him yelling and screaming during the choruses. It’s not the kind of screaming that hurts your head, however. It shows how strong his vocal chords are and the wide vocal range he has. It really captivates listeners-it’s almost like he’s commanding listeners to hear what he has to say.

The first single off the album titled “Worlds Away” is a little slower than the rest of the tracks. It’s one of the weaker tracks on the album but it sounds like a song that would appeal to most people because it’s mellow compared to the rest of the songs. It doesn’t really show the band’s talent but would probably make a good song for movies like Spiderman. The music could be pictured with Spiderman jumping off of building tops.

The new album also really emphasizes the talents of drummer Derek Bloom, especially in “We All Turn Back to Dust.” He has awesome bass kicks and does an awesome job of pounding to the beat. He really gives the album that hard-core metal sound. It’s really amazing to hear the drum playing in each track.

Another song that is really good on the album is “I Once Was Lost, But Now Am Profound.” The song starts with an electric guitar played by Good and the other guitarist Travis Richter and a drum solo. It almost sounds like a battle between the two guitarists. It’s almost unbelievable to see how fast their fingers are probably moving. Bloom adds the finishing touch to the song with his drum playing.

The last song on the album titled “Memorium In Advance” is the perfect ending to the album. It’s also another slower song. Good’s voice is softer in this track and is only about two minutes long. It seems like the song that says “The End.”

The album isn’t exactly original. You’ve probably heard the sound many times before by other bands such as Fall Out Boy and the All-American Rejects. Nonetheless, the album is still great to listen to. It’s great to rock out to when you’re in the mood for energetic and loud music.
