Athletic programs hit by NCAA penalties
May 13, 2008
Seven Sacramento State athletic programs will be penalized according to a Academic Progress Rate report recently released by the NCAA.
The number of different programs penalized was the most of any Division I school in the country, resulting in scholarship reductions in the respective programs.
Men’s baseball, basketball, football, golf, indoor and outdoor track and women’s tennis were all affected by lower rates.
“While we are not happy with the situation, we are confident the programs set in place will move us forward in the right direction,” said Director of Athletics Terry Wanless.
The NCAA Academic Progress Rate, which measures collegiate graduation rates among student athletes, is based off of academic eligibility and retention rate statistics.
