Women’s tennis clinches regular season conference title with wins over Montana and Montana State

The Sacramento State women’s tennis team clinched the regular season Big Sky Conference championship today with a pair of victories over conference opponents. The Hornets began the day by beating Montana 6-1, then bested Montana State by the same score in the afternoon match.

Sac State lost only two matches against Montana, taking two of the three doubles matches and five of six in singles play.

The Hornets lost the first doubles match against Montana State, but repeated their earlier success by taking the other two doubles matches. Sac State followed by losing only one of the singles matches to cruise to an easy victory.

Juniors Joyce Martinez Gutierrez and Anastassia Lyssenko, sophomore Aileen Tsan and freshman Melissa Valenzuela were all 2-0 in singles play on the day.

The Hornets will wrap up conference play on Monday when they take on Northern Colorado in Greeley, Colo. at 1:30 p.m.
