Three to be interviewed for men’s basketball coaching position

Sacramento State Athletics Director Terry Wanless announced Friday that three coaches will be interviewed this week for the men’s basketball coaching position.

Washington assistant Cameron Dollar will be interviewed on Tuesday, San Joaquin Delta College coach Brian Katz will be interviewed on Wednesday and Cabrillo College coach Tony Marcopulos will be interviewed on Thursday.

Dollar is in his sixth season at Washington and helped the Huskies to a combined 119 wins throughout six seasons. He helped recruit classes which were ranked among the best in the nation in 2005 and 2006. He coached three years at Saint Louis University and became the youngest coach (at 22) when he headed Southern California College (now called Vanquard University of Southern California) in Costa Mesa, Calif. Before Southern California College he coached at UC Irvine. Dollar graduated from UCLA with a bachelor’s degree in history (1997).

Katz finished his 15th season with the Mustangs in Stockton, Calif. and totaled 26 years as a basketball coach at high school, junior college and NCAA D-I levels. He has a .716 winning percentage (348-138) at Delta College. He’s a six-time conference coach of the year, and led the Mustangs to 14 playoff appearances, six conference championships, three Elite Eight appearances and one Final Four appearance. One hundred two of the 108 players who have competed through the Delta program have gone to four-year institutions. Before Delta Katz led Lessen College to a 87-47 record in four seasons. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in English from Sac State (1980) and a master’s degree in counseling psychology from Santa Clara (1989).

Marcopulos finished his eighth season with the Seahawks. He’s won two consecutive Coast Conference championships, whilw compiling a 41-18 overall record and 20-4 conference record in the last two years. He’s led the team to six state playoffs in his eight years. He’s tallied 12 years of D-I assistant coaching experience (1988-2000), including one year as an assistant at Portland. Marcopulos worked with Pacific for 11 years where the Tigers had eight winning seasons, two Big West Conference titles, one NCAA Tournament appearance and one NIT appearance. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in physical education from Cal State Stanislaus (1987) and master’s degree in physical education from Pacific (1990).
