Sac State softball falls to No. 7 Stanford

The Sacramento State softball team was shutout 3-0 by No. 7 Stanford in a non-conference match up on Wednesday at home.

The Hornets dropped to 18-13 and the Cardinal improved to 33-5.

Kayla Meeks, Megan Schaefer and Brittani Clifford combined to pitch in the loss and kept Stanford’s Rosey Neill, who’s batting average was .404 and had a .904 slugging percentage, to 0-for-4 with four strikeouts.

The Hornets struggled, only hitting two singles, from Rachel Miles and Amy Tompkins, while the team only advanced one runner past first base.

Senior Tompkins extended her hitting streak to six games after her sixth-inning single. She is batting .524 going 11-for-21 during the six games.

Sac State will begin Pacific Coast Softball Confernece play on Saturday when the team travels to Saint Mary’s for a double-header at noon. The Hornets will continue with another double-header with the Bells on Sunday at noon.
