Women Mentoring Women Conference

A Women Mentoring Women Conference will be held April 18 and allow Sacramento State female students to meet with professional working women.

ASI President Christina Romero announced she will be participating in the conference and encouraged other ASI members to tell others about it.

Sac State students can sign up for the conference through the Women’s Resource Center website at by April 18.

Felix Barba, director of Arts and Letters, questioned if men can attend the conference.

“It probably would ruin the mood I guess,” Barba said.

Romero said the committee discussed the situation but didn’t think they would reject men from registering.

“It kind of is a girly time,” Romero said.

Rally and press conference

Roberto Torres, secretary of State Affairs, announced a rally and press conference will be held April 16 in response to the budget cuts.

ASI has invited media outlets including KRCA, FOX and NBC to attend the event.

Sac State President Gonzalez, Faculty Senate Chair Bruce Bikle, ASI board members and students are scheduled to speak at the event about how the budget cuts would effect them.

A location for the rally has not be set.

Newly appointed directors work to benefit colleges

Three directors sworn into office March 12 have begun working on their special board projects with about two months prior to the term completion.

Kiran Tariq, director of business, will be organizing an event for all business organizations at Sac State to get involved with and learn about ASI.

Tariq said many of the organizations she met with didn’t know a director of business existed.

Justine Yang, director of undeclared, questioned how she could bring undeclared students together when all they have in common is their major.

Yang suggested a handout or student guide for undeclared students could be created to help them get involved, find interests and locate contacts.

Robert Linch, director of Social Sciences and Interdisciplinary Studies, withdrew legislation pertaining to his special board project. Linch said he was still brainstorming the direction of his project.
