Women’s tennis overwhelmed by Texas 6-1

No. 42 Sacramento State women’s tennis team fell to No. 17 Texas 6-1 Saturday in Austin.

Junior Karina Jarlkaganova provided the only point on the day with a victory over Maggie Mello in the No. 4 match 7-6 (10-2), 6-4.

Junior Anastassia Lyssenko lasted three sets in the No. 2 match but eventually lost to Courtney Zauft 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (16-14).

The Hornets lost every doubles match but came close in the No. 3 match in which freshman Melissa Valenzuela and junior Joyce Martinez Gutierrez lost 8-6.

With the loss their record falls to 11-4 overall. They face Eastern Washington at 1:30 p.m. and Idaho State at 6 p.m. on Thursday at Rio Del Oro Racquet Club in Sacramento.
