Sacramento State Recreational Sports held its annual Basketball Blowout & Intramural Basketball All-Star Night on Thursday at Yosemite Hall.

The night’s events included a general 3-point shooting contest which was open to the public and allowed the winner of the competition to compete in the all-stars 3-point contest.

A slam dunk contest was also to have been a part of the event rotation, but Rec Sport Assistant Coordinator Ryan McCallum said that there were very few players who showed interest in the event.

Instead of a dunk contest, a skills competition was introduced where players had to demonstrate their ability to dribble around cones, complete bounce passes through hoops and perform lay-ups within the fastest time possible.

Adam Scheiner won the 3-point competition with a score of 21 points while Daniel Green earned a win in the skills competition with a time of 18.5 seconds.

In addition to those three events, an all-star game comprised of two teams featuring the best 10 players from each of the two brackets from the 5-on-5 Intramural Tournament was held. The brackets are divided by the days of the week that the teams signed up to play on, meaning that the players were chosen to represent the teams playing on either the Monday/Wednesday bracket or the Tuesday/Thursday bracket.

The all-star team of the Monday/Wednesday bracket held a large lead over the Tuesday/Thursday bracket for the majority of the game, but barely managed to beat back a rally near the end of the game to close out a 74-71 win.
