New director of business appointed

ASI appointed Kiran Tariq as director of business in a special meeting this afternoon. The position was vacated when the prior director failed to meet eligibility requirements.

Tariq did not attend the meeting. At a working board meeting Feb. 20, Tariq said she wanted to increase communication between ASI and the business department.

Action Day on proposed budget cuts to be held

ASI passed legislation in support of Action Day, an event organized by the California State Student Association to educate students on the budget crisis.

Action Day will be held April 21 and include a march for higher education from Raley Field to the State Capitol. A press event at the State Capitol where members of the California Legislature and students can meet will follow the march.

All Sacramento State students are invited to participate. ASI will provide shuttle transportation from Sac State to the event.

ASI Executive Vice President Miguel Cervantes said the budget cuts affected the accessibility to higher education and could also affect the affordability.

Possible director appointment

ASI President Christina Romero will present legislation for the appointment of a director of undeclared and director of social sciences and interdisciplinary studies at the next board meeting.
