The Sacramento State Hornets lost their final home game of the season against the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks 77-62.

The loss by the Hornets almost eliminates them from the Big Sky Tournament with their record 6-19, 4-9 in conference. The Lumberjacks’ win increases their chance to get in the tournament with a record of 9-17, 5-8 in conference.

“We didn’t play as well as we usually do,” said junior center Atty Boyer, who was one rebound short of her sixth-consecutive double-double with 13 points and nine rebounds, “We didn’t play mentally and physically well.”

Boyer had also shot 30 percent from the field.

“Hopefully we can win the next three games to get to the tournament,” Boyer said.

The Hornets were out-rebounded throughout the game 45 to 31, but made up for it with their 10 steals.

The Lumberjacks took the lead at halftime and never gave it up, but the Hornets were able to come within one point midway through the second half.

Hornets’ freshman guard/forward Emily Christensen led the team in scoring with 19 points and shot 70 percent from the field.

“They gave me a lot of trouble in the second half – especially Laura (Dinkins),” Christensen said.

Boyer has been playing with a torn lateral meniscus on her right knee.

“We need her out there,” Christensen said. “She’s a good asset to the team even if she’s playing bad.”

The Hornets will play the last three games of the season on the road. The first game of the final road swing will start at 6:05 p.m. on Thursday at Idaho State.
