Gymnasts senior earns 2nd honor

After posting a school record and career-high 9.925 senior Melissa Genovese helped the team post a 194.675-193.30 victory over Southern Utah.

Women’s tennis player earns 2nd honor

Katrina Zheltova was named Big Sky Conference Player of the Week for the second time this season. Last week she upset No. 46 Danielle Stinberg of Arizona leading No. 59 Sac State to a 5-1 victory over No. 39 Arizona.

Softball players post school records

Junior Jamie Schloredt passed up Jill Haas’ (1995-98) 13 career home runs when the junior hit two homers in the season/home opener against San Jose on Feb. 12. Schloredt still has this season and her senior year to add to her total.

Senior Hilary Johnson stole second base for the 33rd time, passing up Lindy Winkler’s (2003-06) 32.

Track jumper earns weekly honor

Senior Raphael McFarlane was named Big Sky Conference Indoor Male Field Athlete of the Week.

He broke his record when he finished first in the long jump (25-07-75) at the Mountain States Games.

Sac State extended NIKE partnership

The partnership has been extended to two more seasons, which means all Hornet uniforms and footwear will be NIKE through the 2009-10 school year.

The partnership began in December of 2005 and was the first department-wide uniform and footwear contract signed by Sac State.

Five more track and field records at the Husky Classic

McFarlane ran a career-best of 6.78, second fastest in school history in the 60-meter. Jody Johnson broke his own record when he came in third in the 200-meter in 21.40 seconds.

Jeffrey Paneda also broke his own record, running the mile in 4:09.64. Colin Szehner ran the 3K in 8:32.01. Alex Johnson ran his way to fourth on the all-time top five list in the 400-meter with his 49.15 second run.

Associate Athletics Director name to NCAA Committee

Lois Mattice was named to the NCAA Committee on Competitive Safeguards and Medical Aspects of Sports. She will begin her term in September.
