Jessica Heskin, an advocate and educator with the Violence and Sexual Assault Support Services, moved office locations from the Women’s Resource Center to the Student Health Center this week.

Heskin’s new office is near the Health Education Department where she continues to provide aid to any students that have been victims of stalking, hate crimes, rape and sexual assault and educate on violence-related issues.

“There are survivors from a sexual assault who obviously have health needs and that’s human health services, and you also have psych services which is in the same area,” said Edward Jones, associate vice president for Student Affairs.

“All three of those things are coming together in one place.”

Heskin said though she is sad to leave the Women’s Resource Center after eight years, it makes sense for her to be in a location where she often refers or meets clients.

“The health services probably pages me more than anybody else on campus so it makes more sense,” Heskin said.

Heskin now shares an office with Cyndra Krogen, who does an internship program for peer health educators with her.

The Student Health Center has been accommodating since it and Heskin were suddenly informed two to three weeks ago of the move.

“They’ve really moved mountains to give me a private office and access to privacy for my clients. They really have pulled out all the stops for that, and I really want to express my appreciation for them,” Heskin said.

“It’s not like my job is the kind you can put in a cubicle, and the health center really understood that.”

Expenses for the Violence and Sexual Assault Support Services program will in part be funded by money made from the Vagina Monologues showing Feb. 14 and 16 in the Hinde Auditorium at the University Union.

Tickets are for sale through the Sac State ticket office at $15 for students and $20 for members of the public.
