Career fair explores job prospects
February 11, 2008
The diverse Sacramento State student body has at least one unifying quality: Everyone is working toward that ideal job. Whatever that dream career might be, students will likely find an opportunity to explore the possibilities of the future at the spring Career Fair.
The event, hosted by the Career Center, will take place on Feb. 20 in the Union Ballroom at the University Union. The fair will feature 120 employers representing a variety of careers.
Organizers stressed that even students not currently in search of a career should attend for the chance to gather information and network with employers.
“Students don’t realize how many opportunities for employment there are out there,” said Michelle Gorospe, events coordinator at the Career Center.
Recruiters from various factions of California state, county and city governments will also be in attendance, as well as financial and insurance corporations, retailers and dozens of others.
Gorospe noted that the participation of the state government is of special importance. Being in the state capital gives Sac State students the unique opportunity to be at the forefront of politics, Gorospe said.
“It is really important for anyone interested in working for the government to attend, because the process is not the same as getting a regular job,” Gorospe said.
The Career Center is offering more promotional giveaways this semester than they have before in an attempt to encourage students to attend. Past attendance has been estimated at more than 1,000 students. The Career Center would like to see this number grow.
“We get really good feedback from both employers who attend and from students,” Gorospe said.
