ASI Notebook: Dec. 5 board meeting

Sacramento State Associated Students Inc. approved legislation that opposed the possibility of a student fee increase by the California State University for the 2008-09 academic year.

Vice President of Academic Affairs Curtis Grima motioned for a postponement of the legislation.

“I see a lot of redundancy,” Grima said. “We don’t have the most critical information on (the legislation).”

Secretary of State Affairs Roberto Torres, one of the authors of the legislation, disagreed with a postponement.

“This legislation expresses the student concerns to fee increases,” Torres said. “I catered it to have the students’ voices heard…If this board were to postpone it, it would be pushing back the students’ voice.”

The postponement failed. Seven members opposed the proposal, while six were in favor.

The final draft of the legislation was passed. Seven members voted in favor, four in opposition and three abstained.
