New OneCard, new additions
November 7, 2007
It’s green, it’s small and it can be used as an ATM card linked to a Wells Fargo account. Yes, ladies and gentlemen it is the new and improved Sacramento State OneCard.
Still keeping its old functions, the improved 2007-08 Sac State OneCards are taking the campus by storm.
The OneCard is more efficient this year because the magnetic strip on the back of the card is attached to your specific student identification number, said Ronald Grant, University Union’s board of director.
“The old identification card numbers were attached to a random number, so when a student gives their card to turn in books, they would have to give their social security number as well,” Grant said. “Now it is all attached to the card.”
Sac State and Wells Fargo linked the OneCard to a student-banking account. The card can now be used as an ATM card around the nation, Grant said.
Students are excited about the new card.
“I haven’t really used it yet, but I am looking to open an account with Wells Fargo just so I can have another card on hand,” said Julia Wobbe, a junior criminal justice major, while receiving her new card.
The card itself does not look different or anymore flashy than the old cards, but people are saying good things about the new improvements.
“I never really liked the OneCards, but I have to say for some reason this card makes my picture look that much better,” said Jesse Dillard, a senior communications major.
There have been no changes from the old card, but Grant said there have been additions. A student can still use it to buy food at TOGO’S between classes or use it to check on their financial aid records in Lassen Hall. So, the old school students do not have to fret, the card was added with a little kick to make college life a little easier.
Student OneCards can also be used at any eatery on campus including Mellow Me Out Day Spa. It can also be used off campus at Chipotle on Fair Oaks, where you can receive a free drink, Chili’s restaurant on Arden, Quizno Subs on Howe, String’s Café on 65th Street, All-star Kuts Village, and Pita Pit at the 65th Street shopping center.
There will be more off campus locations coming soon so students can enjoy more benefits to the OneCard.
If a student still hasn’t picked up their new OneCard, he or she still can at the old bookstore, right across the way of Mendocino Hall.
OneCards are $9 for first-time buyers and $13 for replacements.
Dillard feels this is a great tool students need to take advantage of because it makes it easier to eat and do stuff on and off campus.
