Women’s golf places sixth
October 10, 2007
The Hornets golf team had to battle more than the competition this past Monday and Tuesday in Kuna, Idaho during the Bronco Fall Invitational. The women’s golf team endured chilly conditions and winds up to 50 mph the on way to a sixth place finish.
Leading the way individually for the Hornets was senior Erica Yoshino, finishing 15th overall with a three- round score of 245.
Yoshino was followed by senior Kim Coppin and freshman Samantha Safford, each posting a score of 250, finishing in a tie for 23rd place individually.
The Hornets started off strong, posting a team score good enough for fourth place out of 13 after Monday, but slid down the pack to sixth place the next day during the gusting winds and frigid temperatures.
The horrible conditions during Tuesday’s round saw five golfers shoot a score over 100 and only a mere group of three were able to shoot under 80.
The Cornhuskers of Nebraska easily took the tournament with a team score of 946 besting the Kansas State Wildcats by 11 strokes.
The Wildcats were followed by Wyoming, Boise State, Portland and then Sac State. The Hornets finished 50 strokes behind at 996.
The next Sacramento State woman’s golf match will be the Aztec Fall Classic in San Diego during the 15th and 16th of October.
