University Restaurant is not only for staff
October 28, 2007
Though it has been at Sacramento State for over 10 years, the doors have not often been opened by students. The atmosphere is nice with soft music playing in the background, while the tables are dressed for an elegant vibe so a person can just sit and enjoy themselves.
The University Center Restaurant, located right across the way from Round Table, serves breakfast and lunch for all to enjoy. As food is an attracting topic to college students, it’s quite rare to see many students eating at the restaurant.
“A lot of staff comes in a lot for our meals,” Heather Nelson said, a former waitress and junior pre-nursing major. “Students are welcomed here too.”
When I happen to dine there, the food was actually pretty good and filling. I had the Country Breakfast, which comes with eggs, potatoes, your choice of meat and bread for a reasonable price. I felt a little lonely though, since nobody was in the restaurant.
The breakfast ranges from $3 to $8, and will fill a person up for a couple of hours. The lunch prices are not that bad either, where the most expensive item is about $12. They serve dessert as well if you want to tame your sweet tooth.
“I believe that the location and how it looks can throw students off because when I first came across it, it looks like a professors-only dining restaurant,” Rashaud Martin, an alumnus of Sac State said while enjoying his pancakes.
When standing outside of the restaurant, I asked 10 people if they knew what the University Center Restaurant was and out of the 10, eight told me that it was an eating place only for professors and staff.
A lot of students just go right across the way to Round Table. I am not knocking Round Table, but the University Restaurant has a variety of delicious meals that are healthy too. They have burgers, salads, pasta and soup.
If you are craving some fish, but also want to be healthy, they have a wonderful Salmon Caesar salad that is one of their specialties.
Sure, it doesn’t have the TV’s and the bar scene like Round Table, but if you ever want to unwind from a test or want a good sit-down breakfast, lunch or dinner at a good cost, the University Restaurant is a good place to do so.
If you just can’t wait for the holidays to have a home-cooked meal, the restaurant is featuring buffets for everyone on Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas.
The menu is laid out for goodness, so why not go in and try an entree. Poke your head in the door and the environment just might take you. Students are welcomed to go in and try one of the delicious plates that the University Center Restaurant has to offer.
