Sac State rowing won two sliver medals

The women’s rowing team began its new season with silver medals in both the open pair B (21:00) and open four B (22:06) on Sunday at the Head of the Port in West Sacramento.The Hornets have six different lineups with the open eight A, open eight B, open pair A, open pair B, open four A and open four B.Sac State will compete in its second of four fall regattas on Oct. 27 as it hosts at the Head of America at Lake Natoma.

Women topped the race and men finished fourth

The Hornet women’s cross country team finished first and the men placed fourth in the Santa Clara Bronco Invitational at Baylands Regional Park on Saturday.Erin Wachter (19:00) led Sac State placing third, just four seconds off second place runner Rachel Giffey of George Fox (finished second) and nine seconds behind first place runner Christine Jowaiszas of USF.Mary Wagner (19:03) took fifth, Jodie Leal (19:05) placed sixth, Lora Marchini (19:08) finished seventh, Renisha Robinson (19:14) placed 10th and Athena Gillen (20:10) took 21st.Colin Szehner (25:10) topped the men’s placing 12th, Jeffrey Paneda (25:12) took 13th, Daniel Carlson (25:34) finished 32nd, David Rabinowitz (25:58) placed 53rd, Scott Grose (26:10) took 59th, and Jason Sey (27:07) finished 109th.

Women’s golf team finishes sixth of 13 teams

The Hornets dealt with winds exceeding 50 miles per hour in the third round of the Bronco Fall Invitational on Oct. 9.Sac State beat out seven teams with a score of 996, but Nebraska topped the charts posting a score of 946.Erika Yoshino (245) placed 15th, Kim Coppin (250) and Samantha Safford tied for 23rd, Heather LeMaster (252) tied for 27th, and Brooke Green (258) tied for 38th.

Senior wide receiver named semifinalist

Sac State football senior Ryan Coogler was named a semifinalist for the Draddy Trophy last Thursday by the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame.HealthSouth presents the Draddy Trophy, which is given to the athlete who is shown as the absolute best in the country for his combined academic success, football talents and community leadership.This year, 67 athletes have been picked as semifinalists, but will be narrowed down to 15 finalists on Oct. 25.

Haupt named Player of the Week for the third time this season

After Sac State’s volleyball team beat Santa Clara 3-0, Portland State 3-2 and Eastern Washington 3-0, senior middle hitter Lindsay Haupt was named Player of the Week. The honor is her third of the season and her seventh in four years.The senior combined to average 4.73 kills and 1.09 blocks per game and a .410 hitting percentage. She posted a team-best 52 kills with nine errors in 105 total attacks, and tallied at least 15 kills in every match.

Sac State volleyball spiked its 14th win in a row

The Hornets posted their 20th win this season and continue their undefeated season with the 3-2 victory over Portland State last Friday and 3-0 win over Eastern Washington last Sunday.Seniors Missie Stidham and Jennifer Ferguson recorded 20 kills each and senior Lindsay Haupt made 19 kills against Portland State. Haupt posted 15 kills and a .500 percentage to lead Sac State against Eastern Washington.

Women’s soccer began undefeated conference season

The Hornets beat Weber State in double overtime 2-1 in their first Big Sky Conference game last Friday. Seniors Amanda Gray and Katie Burton scored to give Sac State the victory.Idaho State kept up with Sac State handling the Hornets with a 1-1 tie last Sunday. Sophomore Kim Kemper scored Sac State one shot and sophomore Mandy Trojan posted nine saves.

Men’s soccer wins one and loses one at home

Sac State posted a 1-0 overtime victory after senior Eli Millan’s goal last Friday against UNLV, but the Hornets fell to No. 22 against New Mexico on Sunday.
