Rock out, wrestle at ‘Punk Slam’
October 2, 2007
Let’s get ready to rumble!
“Punk Slam” takes a flying leap off the top rope and lands center ring at the University Union Ballroom Tuesday at 7 p.m.
Combining what drummer Danny Secretion calls “two of the finer things in life – punk rock and pro wrestling,” local bands No Admission, Final Summation, and the Secretions hope to keep the crowd’s fists pumping in between WWE-style wrestling matches.
Secretions guitarist Paul Filthy can sum up what to expect in one sentence: “Everything loud, obnoxious, and sweaty rolled into one night.”
If that isn’t tempting enough, there’s more.
Those who attend could be in for a special treat; it seems a potential guest match is brewing between Danny Secretion and KSSU’s own DJ Rob Fatal.
Secretion, who hosts “The Blitzkrieg Zone” on KSSU in between his timekeeping duties with the Secretions, challenged Fatal to a match live on the air last Wednesday.
“I’ve sent the challenge, I’m just waiting for Rob’s response,” said Secretion, adding, “You never know what’s going to happen at ‘Punk Slam.'”
“Punk Slam” – while based in Petaluma, Calif. – is an offshoot of Supreme Pro Wrestling, a Sacramento-based, independent wrestling promotion. Despite the local ties, this is the first time the event is being held here in town.
One person who is happy to see “Punk Slam” come to Sacramento is Final Summation bassist and vocalist, DPR.
After touring bars and clubs for the past two years, he’s looking forward to a change in venue.
“The best part [of playing “Punk Slam”] is playing at Sac State,” said DPR. “I know students come out to these shows, so we will get to play for a new audience?for someone who maybe hasn’t heard of us.” University Union UNIQUE programs and KSSU are sponsoring “Punk Slam.”The event is free for all CSUS students and $5 for the general public. Tickets can be purchased through the Union box office.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m.
“Its great entertainment for people like me with a short attention span,” said Secretion with a laugh.
