Men’s soccer goes 1-0-1 over the weekend
October 22, 2007
The men’s soccer team improved to 2-2-1 in Mountain Pacific Sports Federation play with a victory over Air Force on Sunday. The victory over Air Force comes on the heels of a 1-1 tie against the Denver Pioneers on Friday.
During Friday’s game Blake Nunes scored the lone Hornet goal in the 90th minute of play on an assist from Fernando Cabadas. The game went into double overtime but neither squad could score the golden goal.
The Pioneers outshot the Hornets 21-6 for the contest, as well as 9-2 in shots on goal and 6-2 in sudden death overtime. Hornet goalie Ryan Kenny provided eight saves.
Sunday the Hornets continued their Colorado road trip and faced off against Air Force. Despite a two-hour snow delay and being forced to play the game on artificial turf, the men’s team pulled out a 2-1 victory.
Cabadas and Emmanuel Ochoa contributed a goal each to the Hornet victory.
Nunes did not play in Sunday’s game because he was serving a one-game suspension for receiving two yellow cards in Friday’s game.
The Hornets next game will be Nov. 2, at Hornet Field against Denver.
