Men’s golf falls to finish sixth at Bill Cullum Invitational

The Sacramento State men’s golf team finished in sixth place at the Bill Cullum Invitational in Simi Valley, California, Tuesday as the Hornets finished with a team score of 304 on the final day of play.

Sophomore Grant Norton shot an even-par 72 to end his final round, giving him a three-round total of 215 and a sixth place finish in the invitational. Norton bested fellow Hornet, Jeremy Harris by one stroke and Cody Miller by 12.

Scott DeBorba and Brad Carricho rounded out the rest of the Sac State golfers, as they finished in 51st and 74th place, respectively. Brian Hollenbeck of UC Santa Barbara led all scorecards with a three-round total of 212 en route to winning the tournament by one stroke over a fellow Gaucho, Michael Casca, and Eric Nilsson from Southern Utah University.

As a team the Hornets slightly regressed as play continued, starting off with 293, followed by a 297 and finishing with a 304, for total score of 894. The team winner of the event was UCSB with a total score of 870. UCSB was followed by Portland, Loyola Marymount, Southern Utah, and Gonzaga and at 24 strokes back, Sac State.

The next match for the Hornets will be on October 22-23 at the Santa Clara Invitational. This will be the final event for the men during the fall portion of the season.
