Loyola Marymount blanks Hornets 2-0
October 10, 2007
The Sacramento State women’s soccer team was shutout for only the second time this season, losing 2-0 at Loyola Marymount. The loss ends the Hornets’ four-game unbeaten streak. Both teams combined for only seven shots in the first period, and the game was scoreless at the half. The stalemate would continue for almost the entire game, although the Lions would dominate the shooting in the second half.
The Lions out shot the Hornets 10-3 after halftime, but did not score until late in the game. Freshman Gabrielle Parisella broke the scoreless tie with a goal in the 81st minute off of an assist from senior Katie Osborne. The Lions would score again with just two minutes left in the game when junior Michelle Kanama netted her first goal of the year in the 89th minute. The Hornets were again outshot on the road, with the Lions attempting 13 shots to Sac State’s 7. It is the third straight road game in which the Hornets failed to out shot their opponent. Loyola Marymount improves to 8-3-1 with the victory, which is their eighth straight win. The Hornets are now 0-3-2 away from Hornet Field and 6-3-2 overall on the season.
The Hornets begin conference play on Friday versus Weber State at 1:30 p.m. The Wildcats are 4-5-1 this season. The game is part of a doubleheader with the men’s soccer team, which will face the Rebels of the University of Nevada Las Vegas at 4 p.m.
