Hornet volleyball slams Santa Clara
October 12, 2007
Playing in front of a crowd of 684 the Hornets won another match 3-0, this time taking on Santa Clara in a non-conference match.
This victory brings the Hornets to 18-3 overall with 12 consecutive wins and eight of those wins being three-game sweeps.
Freshman libero Chelsea Goodsell credits the Hornets success to the dedication that each girl plays with.
“Even if a team is kinda gaining on us, we don’t let up. We always come back and fight and I really like that about this team,” Goodsell said.
Senior Lindsay Haupt believes that it’s discipline from coach Debby Colberg that allows the team to focus on the match and not bad calls.
“(Debby) really requires that we maintain good attitudes and we focus on the next play. We’re never going to turn around a ref’s call so there is no point paying attention to it,” Haupt said.
In the 32nd and final year for coach Debby Colberg, the team is shaping up to be one of her best squads yet.
Even when the match is close, Colberg knows her team can work through it.
“This is why we like to schedule teams like Santa Clara, because it keeps us sharp and we have to learn to play good volleyball again,” Colberg said.
Haupt led the team with 18 kills to match her career-high, followed by senior Missie Stidham with 17.
The Hornets will take on Portland State Friday night at home for the No. 1 spot in the Big Sky Conference. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. in the Hornets Nest.
