Hornet football left out in cold

The Hornets football team continued to struggle on the road as the Weber State Wildcats dominated in snowy conditions, en route to a 26-7 victory. Sacramento State has still never won a game at Stewart Stadium and Hornets all-time record in Ogden, Utah falls to 0-6.
Sophomore Tim Toone caught four touchdown passes and had 128 yards to lead the Wildcats to 433 yards of total offense. Quarterback Cameron Higgins was efficient as well going 13-20 for 245 yards with four end zone connections to Toone. Trevyn Smith balanced out the attack and led all rushers with 21 carries for 110 yards.
The Hornets couldn’t get on the board until a little less than four minutes left in the game when senior quarterback Tim Bessolo hit Crosby Wehr with a three yard touchdown pass to avoid the shutout.
Sac State used three quarterbacks in the loss. Jason Smith started then freshman Duncan White came in and was followed by senior Tim Bessolo. Bessolo got the most work, going 8-24 for 146 yards.
Freshman Bryan Hilliard got his first start at running back, carrying the ball 17 times for 76 yards. Freshman Dylan Lane led the Hornet receiving corps with five catches for 43 yards.
Weber State was able to capitalize on scoring opportunities- especially in the red zone, scoring on three out of four chances.
The Hornets had a fourth and goal situation at the end of the third quarter, but could not punch it into the end zone.
As for the Hornet defense, the unit had an excellent goal line stand in the first quarter to stop Weber State at the 1-yard line.
Mike Hickman led the way with twelve tackles, followed by Mike Brannon and Cyrus Mulitalo with 10. Mulitalo continued his stellar play, and through five games has amassed 47 tackles and four sacks to lead the Hornets in both categories.
The Hornets are now (1-2) in the Big Sky Conference and 1-4 overall. Weber State picked up its first win of the season, putting the Wildcats at (1-4) and (1-2) in the Big Sky.
The Hornets will face the number one-ranked Montana Grizzlies at Hornet Stadium on Saturday at 2:05 p.m.
