$3,600 funding approved for canopies
Associated Students Inc. unanimously approved Executive Vice President Miguel Cervantes’s proposal to purchase two canopies that would display ASI’s logo and website address. A portion of ASI’s money – roughly $3,600 – will go toward the purchase.
Cervantes said the canopies will be used for voter registration, days in the quad, and student elections, giving ASI a more professional image.
President Christina Romero said the canopies are essential for ASI to have.
During the discussion of the purchase, some of the directors raised questions.
Director of Arts and Letters Felix Barba asked if two canopies with ASI logos were necessary, as he said the cost would be high.
Cervantes said ASI needs two canopies with two separate logos because the canopies will not always be located next to each other.
ASI has a five-year warranty with International E-Z UP, Inc., the company that the canopies will be purchased from.
ASI also approved the allocation of $200 toward the purchase of four 4-by-8 foot advertising boards that will be placed around Sacramento State.
ASI addresses hunting controversy
Since it was made public that President Alexander Gonzalez supported the hunting of red-listed animals in Tanzania in September, ASI has not commented on the controversy. Walter Wallace, vice president of University Affairs, said today that students should be more informed about what transpired.
Wallace said he would like to see a forum that would allow open communication between students, faculty and staff.
“(We don’t want) students jumping to conclusions,” he said.
Faculty Senate Designee David Rolloff said he wants a productive response to the hunting issue. He said informing students about endangered species could be beneficial.
“We could have a campus conversation to create a constructive response, instead of just criticizing (Gonzalez), because he was not totally informed about the species.” Rolloff said.
