Women’s soccer drops second straight game

Saint Mary’s opened up the scoring in the 37th minute when Tara Farrell netted a header off of a cross from Bree Villar. The Gaels would take a 1-0 lead into halftime after limiting the Hornets to three shots in the first half.
The second Saint Mary’s score was registered as a result of a Hornet own goal in the 60th minute. Saint Mary’s out-shot Sac State 9-6 for the game, which marks the second consecutive game in which the Hornets were out-shot by their opponent. They entered the game with an 81-55 advantage in shots attempted through their first five games. The Hornets were shut out for the first time this season and fall to 3-2-1 on the year. After starting the season with three straight victories, the Hornets finished their 3-game road trip without a win. The Gaels improved to 3-2-2 and have won back-to-back games for the first time this season. The Hornets return home Sunday to face the Oaks of Menlo College at 12 p.m. They will play a doubleheader with the men’s soccer team, who will square off against UC Davis at 2:30 p.m
