Students believe UTAPS move could spark confusion
September 4, 2007
Sacramento State services that once called Foley Hall home were forced to relocate after demolition of the building began last semester.
One of many services forced to change its location, University Transportation and Parking Services, also known as UTAPS, moved to 7667 Folsom Blvd., a location near campus.
Director of UTAPS, Nancy Fox, said the UTAPS-funded move hasn’t caused problems for students.
UTAPS has yet to release its moving costs.
Kinesiology major Ray Martinez did not find the relocation of UTAPS necessary.
“I’m sure they are spending money using that new location when they could have saved money keeping it on campus using a different building,” Martinez said.
Fox anticipates being at the Folsom Boulevard location for at least two years.
Some students at Sac State believe that having UTAPS off campus will cause problems.
Mayra Montano, a 20-year-old social work major, did not know where UTAPS was located when it was on campus, but still sees potential problems.
“There might be others out there like me who don’t know what the UTAPS center is and don’t know where to pay off their tickets,” she said.
If making the trip to the new location is a detour, one can pay for a parking permit and a parking citation online.
Parking at the new location is accessible, with short-term customer parking spaces.
Along with UTAPS, the Archeological Research Center, the PRIDE Center and other programs were forced to find new homes, either on or off campus.
There are no other Sac State student services or organizations in the new home of UTAPS.
Fox said a date for another UTAPS move has yet to be set.
