State Hornet

The Hornets volleyball team defeated the California State Northridge Matadors tonight by the score of 3-1 to conclude the Sacramento State Invitational. The Hornets went 2-1 in the tournament and improved to 8-3 on the season.

Jennifer Ferguson, the senior Outside Hitter from Pleasant Valley High School, anchored the defense with 20 of the Hornets 71 digs and contributed 14 kills on offense.

Senior Missie Stidham continued to terrorize opposing defenses with 19 kills tonight to rack up 46 over the Sac State Invitational. Stidham earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team along with fellow Hornet Lindsay Haupt.

Setter Rose Burke provided 52 of the Hornets 64 assists.

Michelle Franz led the team with a .636 hitting percentage.

The Hornets almost swept the match but the Matadors fought hard in the third game won 31-29. The victory stopped the Hornets five game-winning streak.

Games one and four ended with the score of 30-20, and the Hornets controlled game two and won 30-9.

The Hornets next match will be on Friday against San Francisco to begin the University of San Francisco Invitational.
