Curling classes available
September 23, 2007
For those not busy Friday night, you are in luck. If you drive west for 30 minutes to Vacaville there are curling classes available.
The site of the event is the Vacaville Ice Sports Center, which recently hosted the first curling event in the state of California.
The Wine Country Curling Club of Northern California is hosting an “Introduction to Curling” class to anyone interested. The cost is $10 and the class starts at 8 p.m.
You might remember the sport of curling from the Winter Olympics. It is a team sport that involves sliding a large puck down an icy straightaway similar to a bowling lane. Teammates use large push brooms to help guide the large puck to the desired target area.
The WCC will be putting on a “Learn to Curl” class on Sept. 28 and it is open to the public. The cost of entry is $15 and the class starts at 8 p.m.
Curling instructors will teach the rules of curling, the strategy of the game and offer safety tips. Equipment will be provided at the event.
The Vacaville Ice Sports Center is located at 551 Davis St. in Vacaville. Contact Jerome Larson at (707) 374-3920 for any questions. The WCC suggests that participants wear warm clothing and rubber-soled shoes.
