The “Walk A Mile in Her Shoes” event which was sponsored by the Women’s Resource Center was held today in the Library Quad.

Patricia Grady, the director of the Women’s Resource Center, said this is the second year of the event and it is held as a part of Sexual Awareness Month.

“This event is designed to raise men’s awareness of sexual assault and also to get men involved in the raising of awareness of sexual assaults,” Grady said.

Grady said this is the first year that men are involved in the event, and the center got men involved by pitching the idea to fraternities in order to get them involved in the event.

“By walking you will get a teal T-shirt, which is the color of sexual awareness,” Grady said.

Brad Thibodo, an sophomore electrical engineering major, said he is walking because he feels this is a good cause to be involved with.

Manuel Lopez, the Men’s Program Coordinator for the Women’s Resource Center, said men should be involved because this is a fun way to get people talking about sexual assault.

“The reality is that if this issue does not happen to you, then it could happen to someone that you know,” Lopez said.

Jessica Compton, a junior communications major, said she was impressed with how many men were involved in the event.

“I (thought) there would only be one or two men here, and that those two would be forced to walk by their girlfriends. But to see so many men taking a part in this event is very impressive,” Compton said.
