Pugh powers Hornets to tournament

Sacramento State will host its first ever Big Sky playoff game on Saturday after defeating Montana State 80-74 on Sunday in Bozeman, Mont. The Hornets overcame a 14-point deficit in the first half to take a 39-34 lead at the break behind Jameel Pugh, who had 15 points in the half including four 3-pointers. Pugh finished with a career-high 24 points while seniors Joseth Dawson contributed 15 points and Brandon Guyton added 13. Bobcat guard Jason Erickson tied the game at 74-74 with around two minutes left before a Pugh lay-up gave the Hornets a 76-74 lead with 56 seconds to go.

A Chris Lange block on defense and key free throws from DaShawn Freeman and Guyton sealed the Hornets victory. Sac State enters the postseason with the No. 4 seed and will host No.5 seed Weber State, the defending conference champions. Sac State defeated the Wildcats for the first time in 19 tries 64-61 on Feb. 19.

Tickets for the Saturday’s game against Weber State on will be made available to the public beginning Tuesday, March 2, at 10 a.m.

Tickets for the 7:05 p.m. tip off will cost $10 for students, faculty and staff and $15 for the general public. Tickets may be purchased at the Sacramento State Box Office (916-278-4323), www.tickets.com, or any tickets.com outlet.

The student, faculty and staff discounted ticket price will end Friday, March 5, at 5 p.m. and all tickets purchased on the day of the game will be $15.
