The Associated Students Inc. Board of Directors voted to promote marketing and advertising for the Academic Information Resource Center 24-hour study lounge.

The 24-hour study lounge will officially begin offering services on March 4, until the end of spring semester.

ASI President Jesus Andrade said he was able to get the design company to lower the proposal price from $1,965 to $1,665.

The new proposal aims to attract students by developing a name, tagline and logo for the study lounge.

“Once a name and tagline is selected, we (Goliath Graffix) will develop three to five visually compelling and effective logos for ASI to choose from,” Goliath Graffix’s project proposal stated. “This is all necessary in creating an image/brand that will be easily remembered and recalled by students and help in making the 24-hour room name a commonly used term among students.”

The design and concept development alone will cost $500, while transferring the name and logo onto bookmarks, posters and banners will cost an additional $500.

ASI Graduate Director Joyce Davis said it would be a waste of ink to make double-sided posters, which was originally suggested by some board members.

ASI Vice President of Academic Affairs Lynsie Hebert suggested that $2,000 at the most be implemented to the entire project.A motion to allow $2,000 for the AIRC 24-hour study lounge marketing and advertising was passed at the board meeting. “It looks like the (AIRC 24-hour study lounge is) going to be approved. Everything is looking good. Students want the program, Andrade said.

Hebert added that the advertising campaign needs to pick up its pace. “It can be approved before our next board meeting. It needs to be approved as soon as possible so that we can get the ball rolling,” she said.

Campus Works Program is a program that deals with money for student employment. In order for the lounge to go into effect, the CWP funds need to be approved, Andrade said.

The 24-hour study lounge was originally supposed to be established the first week of this semester, but CWP was unable to meet during the fall semester.
