Volleyball sweeps Bears
January 7, 2007
The Sacramento State Hornets volleyball team continued its undefeated Big Sky Conference season with a three-game sweep (30-18, 30-15, 30-25) over the Northern Colorado Bears.
“The scores speak for themselves,” head coach Debby Colberg said as the Hornets trampled the Bears (7-9, 4-3) in the first two games in their first meeting with the newcomer to the Big Sky.
“Our players thought it was all sewn up, but they (Northern Colorado) worked hard,” she added. “They can definitely play volleyball.”
The Hornets (17-4, 5-0) have now swept their opponents nine consecutive times and have won 11 of the last 12. They have won 51 consecutive regular season matches in Big Sky competition at home dating back to 1999. But this isn’t something that Colberg looks for.
“I don’t care about streaks,” she said. “I want to play good competition.”
Junior middle hitters Michelle Franz and Lindsay Haupt combined for 18 kills, 13 blocks and a .485 hitting percentage.
Senior Atlee Hubbard recorded her 12th double-double of the season with 11 kills and 13 digs, sophomore Rose Burke posted her eighth double-double of the season with 19 assists and 13 digs, and senior Kristin Lutes led the team with 21 digs.
The Hornets travel to Idaho State tomorrow for a game at 7 p.m.
