Julio Velazquez, the former Associated Students Inc. vice president of finance charged with embezzling $18,125, appeared in court today only to have his trial pushed back for the fourth time to June 15.

After being charged with 16 felony counts that included forgery and fraud on Feb. 14, the trial has not moved forward. Each time Velazquez has appeared in court, his trial has been postponed.

If convicted of the main felony count of false pretenses, Velazquez faces up to three years in prison, Deputy District Attorney Ron Linthicum said.

Velazquez’s attorney, Donald Heller, told the judge that the issue should be resolved on the new court date. A similar statement was made March 22, when Heller said the trial would probably be resolved by now.

Heller refused to comment after the postponement.

“I cannot comment until the issue is resolved,” Heller said.

The 16 felony counts against Velazquez consist of one count of grand theft, one count of fraud involving a trust under his control, one count of fraudulently attempting to gain possession of money and 13 counts of forging a request for payment.

Velazquez served as an executive in ASI from 2003 until 2005. He served at executive vice president from 2003 until the spring of 2005. He then served as vice president of finance in the fall of 2005. He received his bachelor’s degree in business administration last year.
