Dorm diaries: What’s ‘buggin’

Get ready for some dorm life horror stories that surfaced in this tell-all account straight from the mouths of Sac State students.
When asked what the worst aspect of dorm living is, Freshmen Samantha Woods, and an anonymous junior answered unanimously: The bathrooms.
“There are only three toilet stalls, and three shower stalls in each bathroom, which is designated to an entire hallway full of us. And that is before the occasional hair-clogged shower drain, or toilet that gets left in foul condition,” said Woods.
“One morning I had to use the bathroom, and I needed a few of those thin paper liner ‘thingy’s’ and none of the stalls had them. I had to hold my business all day long!” an anonymous senior said.
While bathroom inconvenience ranked pretty highly on the worst of dorm list, horror stories about food and resident advisor encounters weren’t far behind.
Freshmen Frewayine Gebrekidan, shares the unpleasant reason why the only food she will eat from the dining commons is cereal.
“The food is disgusting. Ever since I found a dead fly in my salad, I’ve been eating cereal everyday,” said Gerbrekidan.
Aside from the food, Gebrekidan criticized the disciplinary tactics used by the live-in dorm chaperones, known to dorm residents as “R.A.s.”
“The R.A.s set up these strict rules like ‘quiet time’, and then lurk around the halls like prison wardens. It’s crazy how often they abuse the right to issue written warnings. I was written-up during my first week here for ‘talking too loud’,” said Gebrekidan.
Another anonymous student dishes on laundry woes.
“After loading money onto a card in order to use the community washer and dryer, I left the laundry area to grab something to eat. When I came back, my wet clothes were in a pile on the floor and only a few articles were left from the load in the dryer,” an anonymous student said.
Most of the students I encountered were eager to express their worst experiences in the dorms. There must be a positive side to all of this, we just haven’t heard it yet.
