Student designers were able to strut their stuff and their designs on the runway at the “Hollywood Glamour” 2006 Fall Fashion show Tuesday night.

The show included an assortment of designers and their collections, everything ranging from funky and chic, to classy and elegant.

Designer Hannah Burke’s clothing line was titled, “Silent Impressions.” The line was inspired by unique patterns and textures. Burke described the collection as girly, yet spunky and classy.

“I like finding funky material,” Burke said. “And using material in a way that you normally wouldn’t.”

This was Burke’s first show. She said she was nervous before it began, but also excited to show off her collection. Overall, she said it took her two to three months to complete the six-piece collection.

David Narita, a senior majoring in Apparel Design, said he enjoyed Burke’s line the most, because it was more of a ready to wear market, and thinks the line would do well in the retail business.

Designer Mercedes Ben had the largest collection with a total of 12 outfits. Ben’s collection opened the show with funky threads, upbeat music and models. Ben’s collection titled, “Benzo Couture Presents The Rock Royalty Collection,” is described as a one of a kind line, with funky, retro and colorful pieces. Overall, the collection was upbeat, hip and stylish.

Jim Lee was a model in his friend, Briana Woehrle’s line. Woehrle’s line included men’s and women’s clothes that were inspired from nature’s colors and patterns.

Lee said he enjoyed himself during the show and realized how much work actually goes into preparing for a show like this.

“You’re backstage for four hours preparing and then you’re up there for five seconds.” Lee said. “It’s just amazing. A lot goes into it.”

Victoria Vaughn’s collection was a favorite among many students that watched the show. Vaughn’s collection titled, “Romance by Bikibon, featured evening dresses, designed to help one stand out in the crowd.

Kinesiology major Teresa Frichtel picked Vaughn’s collection as her favorite.

“I thought she did a great job of making the dresses elegant, modern and something people would wear,” Frichtel said.

Family and Consumer Science major Jill Williamson also liked Vaughn’s collection the best.

“All the designs she had were elegant and ready to wear,” Williamson said.

Ulandis Bursey was the only male designer of the night. His collection included shirts and uniquely made denim jeans with patches, rips and tears throughout the jean. Bursey’s collection was titled “GodBody Jeans.”

Claudia Cortes’ collection titled, “Nostalgia” featured casual vintage dresses.

Kathi Singer, a Recreational and Leisure major liked Cortes’ collection because of the 50’s look it had to it.

“It was a cute twist on classic,” Singer said.

Aime Denisova’s collection titled “Pretty in Winter,” featured a range of different designs in her collection, including elegant dresses and funky patterns.

Many audience members expressed their impressions after the show.

“I thought the show was very inspirational and very creative,” Narita said.

Although Williamson thought there were a few things that could have added to the show.

“I was impressed by all the designers’ talent and imagination, but there were some technical things, such as dramatic lighting and song choices that could have added to it,” Williamson said.

The show was put on by The Sacramento State Fashion Association. Donations were being accepted, as well as bottled waters and headbands being sold to benefit the 2007 Fashion Show that will happen in the spring.
