Man arrested after attempting to steal bike
November 15, 2006
A man was arrested Tuesday after trying to steal a bike on the west side of Capistrano Hall, according to campus police.
Two university staff members called campus security after noticing the suspect using a pair of pliers to cut a lock from a bicycle. He was unable to cut the lock and walked away.
Campus police dispatched officers on bikes and community service officers on foot, who captured and arrested the suspect.
“It was a really good coordination between bike patrol officers and the community service officers,” said Cpl. Jeff Solomon.
The suspect, 37, is a parolee who has been arrested four times on campus on burglary and weapons charges.
“He admitted that he was here to steal,” Solomon said. “If he’s convicted, he’ll go back to prison.”
