The last time Lisa Beauchene was in Johnson Gym at the University of New Mexico she was clad in Hornets Green and Gold ?” and was dominant. –
The former volleyball setter for the Hornets was named to the 2003 Albuquerque Mariott Lobo Classic all-tournament team after averaging over 13 assists per game that weekend and had a triple-double against host New Mexico.-
Last June, Beauchene took an assistant coaching position with New Mexico and it looks as if the winning and success is following her.-
The Lobos ?” who were a dismal 9-17 overall and 3-11 in the Mountain West last season ?” went 2-1 at the Comcast Lobo Invitational over the weekend ?” dropping the championship match to Villanova 3-0 (30-24, 30-23, 30-24). New Mexico is now 2-2 overall this season.-
Beauchene became the latest former Hornet to join the Division I volleyball coaching ranks as Sharon Clark (head coach at Butler), Maureen Rafferty (head coach at Seton Hall), Sarah Chlebana (assistant at Syracuse) and Jamie Holmes (assistant at Ohio State) have all preceded her.-
Clark’s team at Butler is 3-2 this season after falling to No. 10 Wisconsin in the championship of the Air Force Falcon Invitational on Saturday night.-
Seton Hall has started its season 2-3 under Rafferty’s direction, most recently going 1-2 at the Patriot Invitational hosted by Loyola-Md.-
Chlebana and the Orange are 2-1 early this season with the lone loss coming to defending national champion and No. 3-ranked Stanford.-
Holmes and the rest of the Buckeye coaching staff have led Ohio State to an early No. 12 national ranking and have yet to drop a game in winning the first three matches of the year in 3-0 sweeps.
Minor league baseballThere are eight former Hornet baseball players currently in the minor leagues. None of the players are beyond the Class-A level.
John Acha, who finished his rookie season ball for the Giants, batted .282 with 21 RBI this season. Brett LeVier advanced to Double-A in the Red Sox chain this season, but was demoted back to Class-A by season’s end.
